The second and more important issue tourists are worried about is when to buy tickets. The winter is considered the least attractive time of the year, respectively the airlines offer smaller number of flights and lower prices. However, in winter Ukraine also has much to offer. Let’s consider the advantages of every season and you will be able to independently determine the best time for you to visit Ukraine.
When is it better to go to Ukraine?
Moderately continental climate of this country results in fairly rapid change of seasons. This is important for tourism. High tourist season in Ukraine begins in late April, early May, and ends in September. It is at this time that most tourists come to rest in the mountains, at the sea, in sanatoria, near rivers and lakes, or to go sightseeing to various destinations within the country.
A low season in Ukraine can be conditionally called a rather raw November and cold March. We say conditionally because in these months ski resorts can already be or are still open, excursion programs and museums are working, and at the same time the prices are decreasing.
The second part of the high season is of course the New Year and Christmas holidays. In Ukraine, with its love for celebration, this period lasts from mid-December to mid-January. Holidays in Ukraine in winter
Winter is of course Christmas, New Year and skiing. It is also about many festivals related to winter holidays. The weather in Ukraine in winter may well correspond to the idea of a snow fairy tale – if you’re lucky of course. There is quite a lot of snow in the northern and central parts of the country, as well as in the Carpathians.
On average, the winter temperature in the north, north-west and west of the country is around -5-10°C, there may be a thaw up to+10° C, and frosts to-25°C. In the south, in the Black Sea and the Azov Sea, the frosts is rather rare; in winter there is zero or a small plus temperature; moderate minus temperature is also possible.
There is not too much snow. If you are going to the Carpathian Mountains to ski resorts, check the weather so that there was no thaw. But usually from December to March it’s snowy and cold there. Excursion tours are also quite interesting, and New Year’s fairs will attract many visitors to Kiev. Ukraine is the unique country where Christmas is celebrated twice: it is Catholic, on December 25, and Orthodox, on January 7. Make sure to visit Lviv, Kiev and Odessa. Tourists from warm countries – Central Asia, India, who have never seen snow before will especially like it here in winter.
Holidays in Ukraine in spring
Spring is the time of flowering, and in Ukraine it starts in April. In March, it was quite cold and raw, the snow begins to melt, and walking around is unlikely to be comfortable. But the warmer it becomes, the more pleasant the whole sightseeing tour is.

The weather in Ukraine in spring is pretty rainy and windy; by April-May there are more warm days within all the regions of the country. In the middle of May one can already swim in the Black and Azov Seas. Starting from May, Odessa and other sea resorts are quite comfortable for sea rest.
Holidays in Ukraine in summer
Undoubtedly, summer is ideal time for tourism. The weather in Ukraine is hot enough in summer, only in the Carpathians it is cool in June and begins to cool down in August. But the mountains are mountains, and July is still the best month to visit.
Sea resorts of the country welcome their visitors since early May, but here ame as in many other countries July and August are considered the peak of the season. In the hottest time of the year, the temperature in Ukraine reaches +35°C and may be even more. But usually it does not last too long, and summer thunderstorms happen everywhere within the country.
In Kiev, the most number of tourists come from April to October. The capital is always the capital, it’s always more fun, more sights, a river, lots of night clubs and entertainment, so mahjority of tourists come here.
